The problem

Why this matters more than it looks like

Google’s new minimum image size requirement is going to catch a lot of merchants off guard, especially larger catalogs where nobody has time to check every product by hand.

📏 A hard deadline is coming From January 31, 2027, Google will enforce a 500x500px minimum on your main product image. Anything smaller risks disapproval.

🖼️ Additional images matter too, differently There’s no hard minimum on additional images, but small ones can quietly hold back your Store quality rating. This tool checks both, and tells you which is which.

🔍 No bulk-check option in Merchant Center There’s no built-in way to audit thousands of images at once inside Merchant Center itself, you’re left checking products one at a time.

⏳ Manually checking a large catalog isn’t realistic For catalogs in the thousands, eyeballing every image isn’t a real option. This tool is built to handle large exports without you lifting a finger once it’s running.

How it works (MerchantCodex members only)

Three steps to check your catalog

1

Download your product export from Merchant Center
Export your product feed (Products > download icon).

2

Upload Data
Click on the upload file, and upload your zip file.

3

Run the scan and review your results
Use the MerchantCodex menu to check your Main Images (against the required 500px minimum) and, optionally, your Additional Images. Results land in a color-coded report, you’ll see at a glance which images fail the minimum, which are compliant but under the 1500px Excellent-badge threshold, and which are already in great shape.

What’s included

Everything is built into the web app

Checks against Google’s actual thresholds
The 500px minimum required from January 31, 2027, and the 1500px Google recommends for an Excellent Store quality rating.

Separate scans for main vs. additional images
Because Google’s rules genuinely differ between the two, the tool doesn’t lump them together and give you a misleading picture.

Built for large catalogs
Scans run in the background and pick back up automatically if a catalog is too big to finish in one go, you don’t need to babysit it.

Color-coded report
Problem images are immediately visible, red for below the minimum, yellow for below the recommended size, green for excellent.

Member-only access
The tool verifies your MerchantCodex membership before every scan, the same way as our other tools.

Actively maintained
